O Paon at Le Poisson Rouge

On June 16th Austin and I covered Earth at Le Poisson Rouge. Before the first act hit the stage we had heard that the opener was the real break out on the tour. She would use a looping pedal and build the songs from simple guitar parts and vocals. All of the lyrics were in French which added to the ethereal nature of her sound.

Anna Calvi - Bowery Ballroom May 25th 2011

These shots are of Anna Calvi and She Keeps Bees. There was a band between the acts that sounded like Vampire Weekend from the West coast and didn't produce any interesting images for me. But during their second or third song I saw a guy dressed all in white with white hair shot straight back. After a double take I realized it was David Byrne. Between bands Austin and I nervously sidled up to him and finally introduced ourselves. He very friendly and happy to know we liked his music and willing to talk and joke with us for a moment. Only a small number of people seemed to recognize him. Unfortunately I didn't take a photo with him as I felt it was rude to ask. So far my largest celebrity sighting in New York City.

Sunn O))) & Boris - Altar September 7th, 2010

There were around 17 stacks all on at the same time and at the end of the first song by the supergroup they blew the power to the whole place. In the end the stage had little to no lighting for the rest of the night to keep from tripping more circuits and the cops shut the place down before the whole album was played because the venue is in a fairly residential neighborhood.

The photos choices for the original gallery were a little loose so I've cut the stuff that I didn't feel stand up well.

Sleep - Masonic Temple September 8th, 2010

Matt Pike of High on Fire and the members of Om used to be Sleep, one of the defining stoner rock bands of all time. In 2009 they started playing select reunion dates. On September 8th, 2010 they performed their heralded album Holy Mountain at the Masonic Temple in Brooklyn.
